The Good and Beautiful God Class

The Good and Beautiful God Class

We all have ideas that we tell ourselves about God and how he works in our lives. Some are true--but many are false. James Bryan Smith believes those thoughts determine not only who we are, but how we live. In fact, Smith declares, the most important thing about a person is what they think about God. The path to spiritual transformation begins here. / Turning to the Gospels, Smith invites you to put your ideas to the test to see if they match up with what Jesus himself reveals about God. You can purchase the book here.

Tuesdays, September 10 through October 29, 2019 from 6:30 to 8 PM at the North Campus.

The Good and Beautiful Life

James Bryan Smith believes the gospel is about change in our lives today, not just our eternal destiny. In The Good and Beautiful Series he aims to help Christians develop a robust discipleship by helping them understand who God is, what it means to be a Christian and what it means to live in community as a part of God's kingdom. As you read and work through The Good and Beautiful Life (ideal for a group setting), Smith encourages you to read, journal, pray, discuss and participate in weekly spiritual exercises to help you engage with the text. As you go through the book you'll discover your heart being shaped by the truth of Christ and your life being changed. Get to know the God Jesus knew and the Kingdom he proclaimed. The transformation you seek will come as a direct result of spending focused time with him and his people. Child care available for a fee. Purchase your book here.

Thursdays, September 12 through December 12, 2019 from 6:30 to 8 PM at the North Campus.

VBX: The Pentateuch
Sep

to Nov 12

VBX: The Pentateuch

Vineyard Bible Exploration 1 - The Pentateuch
A relational study of the first five books of the Bible (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy). Also called "Torah" in the Hebrew Scriptures. Though these books are often referred to as "The Law" and "The Law of Moses", Torah actually means "teaching". These five books we are studying are among the world's most ancient writings.
In the process of looking at the first 5 books of the Bible, we will also look at many related verses in the New Testament. One of the reasons the Pentateuch is so significant is that often the first time a concept or theme is mentioned in the Bible helps us understand the underlying meaning behind it. That said, in our Pentateuch study we will first of all have a look at an introduction to God's Word; then at God and creation; then the nature of sin; then covenant -- God calling and working through people; then the exodus deliverance; followed by God's standards, worship, the perils of unbelief and the reminders to always love and obey God. As we go through The Pentateuch we will see the various symbols of covenant agreements between God and His people.

Vineyard Institute: Luke Acts

This course discusses what Jesus began to do and teach through his earthly ministry (Luke), and what he continued to do and teach through the work of the Holy Spirit (Acts). Because Luke and Acts are written by the same author, who carefully constructs the relationship between his two volumes, a clear and obvious theology can be observed, which is expressed in ten major themes that run through his works. These works, which make up a significant percentage of the total New Testament documents, represent the primary missions texts of scripture. Click here to download detailed class description

Vineyard Institute Seminar: Story of the Kingdom

Vineyard Institute Seminar: Story of the Kingdom

As human beings, we are storytellers. We can’t help but tell stories—about ourselves, one another, the world around us. The most important story in the world is the story of God. Our very selves and the world around us have been—and continue to be—profoundly shaped by God’s work creating us, healing us, and drawing us to our final end.

This seminar begins with four basic human intuitions about the world:

  • The world is beautiful.

  • The world is broken.

  • The world can be healed.

  • There must be more.

These four intuitions shape the world as we know it and our lives within it. The course uses these four intuitions as lenses through which to tell and come to more deeply understand the Big Story—the biggest story there is: a story Jesus liked to tell as the Story of the Kingdom of God. Even if you already think you “know” the Bible, this course will help you see the unity of Scripture, read every part of the Bible in light of the whole, consider your life in light of God’s Story, and share that story with others.
